RAPID Fund
Responding to Pakistan’s Internally Displaced (RAPID) Fund is a funding mechanism which has been established under a cooperative agreement between Concern Worldwide and the USAID Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA). Under this agreement, OFDA are funding Concern Worldwide in Pakistan to administer a fund which can be used by other organizations in Pakistan to respond quickly to the urgent needs of Pakistanis displaced due to conflicts, crises and disasters in Pakistan.  Recognizing that Pakistan is prone to disasters and crises, the rationale for this type of umbrella grant is the need to be able to channel funding quickly to meet the urgent needs of IDPs as they arise in PakistanRead more …


 

Swat IDP Emergency Response

Based on rapid assessment of the situation carried out by Concern and our local partner Integrated Regional Support Programme (IRSP) in May 2009, Concern and IRSP concluded that the most appropriate response at this time was to provide Non-Food Item kits and Hygiene Kits to recently displaced families living with host communities in Mardan district. With monitoring and support from Concern, IRSP conducted 14 distributions from 24 May to 13 June 2009. As well as explanation of the distribution process and the contents of the kits, mass hygiene awareness was also carried out in the distribution locations by IRSP staff in conjunction with the distribution.

World Health Day
On April 7th, World Health Day was celebrated by Concern’s Rawalpindi Rural Development Programme (RRDP) team and community members from UC Dirkot.
Events arranged to mark the occasion included a speech competition, sharing of the action plan of the UC Forum Health Committee and first aid training and demonstrations.
Speakers at the event included Hamza Abbasi (RRDP Coordinator), Abbas Gondal (Friends foundation Rawalpindi), Naib Nazism (UC Dirkot), Dr. Umair Malik (Programme officer, Concern) and Dr. Sarfraz, manager of Kot Siha BHU.

Provision of equipment to the Kot Siha BHU
Concern’s RRDP team also chose World Health Day to present equipment to Kot Siha BHU. The medical equipment presented to the BHU included advanced first aid kits, beds, IV stands, an ECG machine and a Glucometer.
Meanwhile, the UC forum’s project committee also aims to improve conditions at the health centre through the installation of a roof water tank. Work on the scheme will begin in mid April.

International Women Day
International women’s day was marked by Concern Pakistan in both the Rawalpindi Urban & Rawalpindi Rural programmes.

In Rawalpindi City, Rawalpindi Urban Development Programme (RUDP) partners, Al-Fallah Development Foundation (ADF) and Pakistan Institute for Environment-Development Action Research (PIEDAR), jointly organized an event to mark International Women’s Day. The event, which was held at the Shalimar Hotel in Rawalpindi, was attended by 80 women, including community members, local activists, RUDP programme participants, members of civil society organizations and local government representatives. Concern Worldwide Rolls Out Pakistan Emergency Response Strategy

Concern Worldwide Pakistan Programme (CWPP) is currently in the process of rolling out its innovative

nationwide emergency response strategy. The strategy is aimed at building the capacity of Concern and numerous local NGOs to respond to emergencies in a timely and effective manner. Under Concern’s emergency response strategy, MOUs are signed with local NGO partners, who already have a presence in disaster prone areas.

Supporting Post Flood Early Recovery in Balochistan
In June 2007, cyclone Yemyin hit the south of Pakistan, bringing with it devastating floods which left

hundreds dead and hundreds of thousands of people homeless. CWPP responded to the emergency in districts Awaran, Lasbela & Jhal Magsi in Balochistan province, providing food and non-food items to almost 25,000 people through local implementing partners WESS, Sangat Development Society (SDS) and Root Work. With the completion of the emergency response in early August, CWPP designed a 6-month post flood, early recovery project for the same 3 districts
